Friday Afternoon Palate Cleanser – Airline Safety and Lady Gaga

Things have been happening on board airplanes recently, and with an overriding sense of relief I can proudly say they’re not all bad!

This video hit the ether this morning showing a normal flight safety demonstration on Cebu Pacific Airways going all Gaga. The performance took place once the plane reached cruising altitude (the normal, non-booty shaking safety demonstration was done at its regular time before take-off). The video shows flight attendants working through a surprisingly well-synchronized routine to a mashup of Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance” and Katy Perry’s lyrical masterpiece “California Gurls”.

Candice Iyog, vice President of Marketing at Cebu Pacific Airlines, said about it:

“Cebu Pacific has always been known as a fun airline, we wanted to get the message across to our customers that flight safety doesn’t have to be boring. This was an experiment that we hope to repeat and also a chance to showcase the talent of some of our cabin crew staff.”

I’m really hoping more of these entertaining post-gate moments show up online. This actually could be the start of an age of enjoyable airplane travel. We’ll have to see about that.

Low-cost Cebu Airlines is now the Philippines’ largest airline, moving over 5 million passengers over the last 6 months alone, 5% more than Philippine Airlines.
