The Best Airline in the World Goes to: Drumroll please…

Oh how we love to be vindicated. Yesterday, Skytrax, the most trusted and respected airline rankings website, released their yearly winner of the ranking poll, and it turns out the big winners are all airlines that regularly appear on AirTreks customer’s itineraries.

Middle eastern carrier, Qatar Airways, has seized the top of the list this year, taking the spot from incumbent Asiana who moved down to third.

Per Skytrax:

Qatar Airways is the flag carrier of Qatar linking over 100 International destinations from its base in Doha. Using a fleet of 96 aircraft, the airline operates one of the youngest fleets in the world with an average age of less than 4.1 years, and it is one of the few airlines to fly to all six permanently inhabited continents.

Every one of those points I can totally get behind. Not to mention that AirTreks has an excellent contract with Qatar and is one of our most used carries to get clients between Europe, Africa and Asia.

Here’s the list of the top 10 best airlines for 2011:

  1. Qatar Airways
  2. Singapore Airlines
  3. Asiana Airlines
  4. Cathay Pacific Airways
  5. Thai Airways International
  6. Etihad Airways
  7. Air New Zealand
  8. Qantas Airways
  9. Turkish Airlines
  10. Emirates

The Skytrax ranking methodology is to poll regular travelers to determine the airline’s rank, which in part is the reason every airline wants this prize. It’s a direct result of customer satisfaction, which in the days of  opinions that spread like wildfire from the crowd, an airline loves to know their passengers are happy, because when customers are happy, everybody’s happy.

Over 200 domestic and international airlines were in the running for the honor this year, after 18.8 million travelers were polled.

One other category of note is the “Most Improved Airline“, which this year goes to China Southern, one of China’s ‘Big Three’, traveling between major cities in China and more recently to Europe and North America.

If there’s a specific airline you wish to have on your RTW or multi-stop ticket purchased from AirTreks please let your Personal Travel Consultant know and we’ll be sure to fit it in.

Congratulations, Qatar Airways!
