Circling the Pacific

In each monthly newsletter we create an air ticket special on destinations that offer great values for travelers while sharing our recommendations on great times to go. The unique thing about travel is that we all get to choose between the twelve month year on when the time is right for us to depart and explore. Perhaps warm-sunny weather is what lures us, or rather colder-crisper conditions for the snowboard or ski enthusiast is desired for the perfect trip; whatever the choices may be, there are endless options to the contrary that will always appeal to someone and the unchanging reality is there will forever be present the distinctive local customs and cultures that define destinations no matter when we decide to go.

Why Travel During the Shoulder Season

No worries if you missed an opportunity to travel during the busy summer season. Sure it has its benefits but something to note is that the shoulder seasons (fall or spring) present many advantageous reasons for travel – the large crowds are diminished, hotter climates generally become more comfortable and the prices for accommodations and tours are normally cut. So now that the sun is bound for south the countries near or below the equator are beginning to spring forward with pleasant all-around conditions.

Fiji

This particular ‘Circle of the Pacific’ air special is a great way to expose oneself to a variety of cultures while discovering the secrets of the ‘Rim of Fire.’ Nadi, Fiji will put relaxation into the beginning of the six stop adventure. Long soothing days await the visitor along the northern Sunshine Coast of Viti Levu Island where the splendor of impressive coastal views and majestic highland ranges collide. Just a mile off the coast is the island of Nananu-i-Ra, which is known for its beautiful white sandy beaches and good-quality diving.

New Zealand

Freeing oneself from the Fijian friendliness firmly plants the second stop to this journey in Auckland, New Zealand. Located in the lush green subtropical northern New Zealand Island, it is surrounded by many extinct volcanoes. To witness geological amazement coast down the Thermal Explorer Highway from Auckland through the Central Volcanic Plateau while passing the volcanic triplets of Mt. Tongariro, Ngauruhoe and Ruapehu. The first two are dormant but the latter is highly active. This highway is also a great way to reach huge limestone caves and bubbling geothermal areas.

Australia

Just west, the large floating continent of Australia is in a world of its own. It would be impossible to see it all in a week or even a month, but touching down in Sydney and Melbourne will leave you wanting more. Sydney is sophistication and sunny weather rolled into one big lively urban setting. While Brisbane lies north about 500 miles and can be visited on a side trip, Melbourne is approximately 433 miles southwest and is included in this trip.

Melbourne, Australia’s garden city, boasts cafes, a “little Italy” and a Greek district. It is also home to some of the country’s most prestigious universities. Two must see attractions are Southgate, a recently renovated entertainment district along the Yarra River with an abundance of bars, shops and restaurants, and Federation Square, finished in 2002 this area boasts the Victorian National Gallery, the Centre for the Moving Image, and a wine hall.

Bangkok, Thailand and Hong Kong

Time for the end points of this wonderful trip. The modern metropolis’ and ancient historical times of both offer remarkably well juxtapositions that give travelers the best of both worlds in this value added journey.
